Write for us
We welcome clear, original pitches about geography and the connections that shape places. Strong proposals bring a distinct question to a general reader and show how the subject can be explored without relying on specialist advice or inaccessible evidence.
What fits
We are interested in pitches about landscapes, settlements, borders, routes and place names, including the ways these subjects connect. A useful contribution might explain a geographical idea, compare how places function, trace a historical change or help readers notice a pattern on a map. The subject should have lasting value rather than depend on a passing news moment.
A focused proposal
Send a short description of the central question, the reader takeaway and the shape of the piece. Explain what makes this angle distinct from an introductory overview, and note the kinds of sources or examples the article would use. We value precise scope, plain language and a fair account of uncertainty more than grand claims.
Send a pitch
Use the Contact page to send proposals and select the editorial question option. Unrequested complete manuscripts are not necessary; a concise pitch is enough to start a conversation. Submission does not guarantee acceptance, and we may not be able to respond to every proposal.
Places are shaped by connection
A map is more than a picture of where things are. It can show how terrain, movement and human choices have shaped the places around us.
